Do Car Games Teach Your Kids Bad Lessons

There are some parents who believe car games teach their children the wrong kind of lessons. For example, Grand Theft Auto seems to teach kids that it is okay to kill people and steal their property. Well, a smaller child should not have access to this game anyway. The children old enough to play the game should have been taught right from wrong. I disagree with the parents who allow children who are not old enough to understand the difference between a game and reality.

The other problem some parents have with car games is that the objective is to win. They worry that this makes a child think that they always have to be number one in whatever they do. This is just not the case. You can play a game and not think that you will need to always beat everyone. Sure the car games are competitive, but it is in a fun way. The game does not give a child a winner’s mentality unless they were already that way to begin with.

The last reason some parents think that car games are bad is because of a thought their parents instilled in them. They simple think that video games rot your brain. To those parents I say, Grow up! You can learn a lot from car games. The missions exercise your child’s ability to think creatively. The game itself helps improve their hand and eye coordination. Their cognitive skills are enhanced in lots of different ways. If you are concerned your child is spending too much time playing games then limit his use. Tell him he can play for an hour after school if he gets his homework done, and two hours on Saturday. Sunday have him play outside. This way you are keeping him active, and he is not spending too much time on the car games. It is good for him to play some, so quit worrying.
